Add the right context
Check the date, region, units, comparison period and whether the value is an absolute reading, anomaly, count or derived statistic. Then look at a longer series before deciding how unusual the latest movement is.
Know what the data cannot prove
Observation and attribution are different questions. A measured change can be real without a single reading, image or event proving its cause. Statistical outlooks can describe what a recent pattern suggests, but they are not weather or climate forecasts.
