A practical sequence for dealing with immediate safety, protecting evidence, recording details and keeping the first minutes after a road incident organised.
FN CrashGuard+ is designed to help keep an incident record structured, but the quality of the record still depends on safe use, accurate information and careful review. The practical steps below are intended to make that process clearer.
Safety comes before recording
Stop safely where possible, assess immediate danger and deal with urgent needs first. Evidence matters, but it should never take priority over personal safety or create another hazard.
Protect the incident when safe
Once it is safe to use the phone, protect the incident so the relevant event can be kept as a single record. Do not operate the app while driving.
Capture the scene before it changes
If safe, photograph the overall scene, vehicle positions, road layout, visible damage, debris, signs, markings and relevant conditions. Wider context is often as important as close-up damage.
Exchange and record details
Record the other vehicle and driver details you are given, plus registration, make/model, insurer information where available and contact details. Check spelling and numbers before leaving the scene.
Identify witnesses
If someone independently saw what happened, ask whether they are willing to provide their name and contact details. Record only what they personally observed, not what others later told them.
Write a factual account while fresh
When you are safe and settled, make a short voice or written statement covering what you remember. Separate direct observation from anything you are uncertain about.
Keep follow-up in the same record
Later calls, claim references, repair information and correspondence are easier to understand when they stay connected to the original incident record.
