Scenario planning helps compare possible outcomes without pretending a forecast is guaranteed.
Evidence firstUse measurable signals to decide what deserves attention, keep changes controlled and verify the result after deployment.
Hold assumptions explicit
A useful scenario states what stays constant and what changes. If you model CTR improvement, keep impressions fixed. If you model a ranking move, state the target position and the benchmark used.
Use scenarios for prioritisation, not promises
The value is comparative: one opportunity may have far more upside than another if all else were equal. Do not present scenario clicks as future traffic commitments.
Test conservative and stronger cases
A modest case helps identify opportunities that still look worthwhile without heroic assumptions. A stronger case shows the upper direction of travel. If an action only makes sense under an aggressive assumption, it probably belongs lower in the queue.
Keep query context attached
Search intent, brand, SERP features, device mix and seasonality all affect CTR. Keep the query and landing page visible beside the scenario so decision-makers understand the limitations.
Turn the result into a testable action
Choose the page improvement you can actually make: clearer snippet, stronger content, internal links, technical fix or consolidation. Then measure real outcomes instead of endlessly refining the model.
